The Prince

Real pragmatic, calculated analysis and advice on politics, quite different from ways and thoughts on governance by writers such as plato and aristotle who used science, morality, righteousness, efficiency as benchmarks to find the perfect Republic.
machiavelli just sat back, looked at the hard cold evidence of regimes, and his analysis is spot on.
the books influence is so wide and ingrained that a lot of his propositions seem like common sense today, I was constantly reminded of game theory, economics, art of war, even game of thrones.
though I'd bet they'd be revolutionary in 16th century Italy, and likely to have set the standard since.
Machiavelli wasn't really evil, just a smart realist
