Eragon (The Inheritance Cycle #1)

This book is a total rip-off of the original Star Wars (Episode 4)movie. It reeks with purple prose, and what Paolini didn't steal from George Lucas, he plagarized from JRR Tolkien and Anne McCaffrey.
What bugs me most about this book is that it has been praised by highly visible librarians like Nancy Pearl who ought to recognize it for what it is. A cheap piece of fanfiction with an author who was marketed for his youth and his unusual upbringing the same way Jo Rowling is famed for writing "Harry Potter" as a single mother sitting in a cafe.
I don't expect publishers to have scruples. But I do expect librarians to have taste.
Fine to publish this on fanfiction.net. Not to turn it into a book, much less a New York Times bestseller.
