this was a 4.5 but after a couple days i cant stop thinking of this. as soon as i finished it i was literally lost for words. i wanted to erase my memory and read it again for the first time bcos what the FUCK.
at the start i was thinking hmmm this is kind of slow, not really sure how i feel about it but then it hit 150 pages and OH MY GODDD. it was just sooo much fun.
i loved bel as a main character, she was so blunt and kinda rude but it was soo funny to read. especially all the comments she made to ash, literally telling him to be ‘normal made me cackle. everything bel did was out of love for her family in some way or another and it was kinda admirable. although i’ve gotta say one strange bit was the tiny romance between ash and bel it felt just added in for the sake of it. it was never going to be a huge plot of the book ofc i knew that but it felt a bit unnecessary. either way still ate it up LMAO.
the way i want to talk about rachel price but i just cant say a single thing bcos id end up spoiling the entire book. along with the rest of the family, i want to say soooo much but i refuse to say any spoilers.
THE PLOT WAS INSANE. maybe i’m just super easy to be shocked, especially by any type of thriller/mystery bcos i barely read them, BUT IT WAS INCREDIBLE. i didnt see any of it coming from a mile away and the whole concept was just insanity. i was left completely speechless tbh.
every single plot twist left me gobsmacked.
this book lowkey got me emotion also. did i nearly cry? YES. did i expect to nearly cry? NO. i’m just as shocked as you are. i felt all the suspense and all the sympathy and every frickin emotion i could think of. i could not get enough.
one tiny thing which i didn’t like, just a small book ick was the mention of covid and tiktok and other book titles. like six of crows mentioned? malibu rising? a little life? it baffled me. and covid, like girl i know we’re trying to write it in the present day but pls leave covid out of this.
ANYWAYS holly jackson books are soooo dear to me i loved every damn second of this book and i NEED you guys to give it a chance. you definitely WILL NOT be disappointed.
