There is a belief that in order to be good or worthy, a movie or book must have suffering within it. If there is happy ending (not that kind, perv) then it gets comments like "it's fan fiction."

I don't agree with this belief.

Which is why I stopped watching Outlander, and which is why I disliked Weyward.

Step right up, get all the trauma times three. Three different women in three different timelines - guess what they have in common? Trauma at the hands (and other body parts) of men.

Want to read about a woman abused by her husband? We got one!

Want to read about a woman (a child, really) getting raped? We got one of those, too.

Want to read about a woman being accused of witchcraft? Yeah, we got that one!

This was an exhausting book. The prose was adequate, although nothing stellar, and the endless cloud of gloom and violence hanging over the main characters was so tiring.

There were times that the voices of the three women were only differentiated by their circumstances, that I could only tell them apart because of the year they were in and what was going on around them.

I read everything from biographies to horror and have a strong stomach, but this was just trauma porn.
