Have not read this book- I have no reason not think it is good. Just wanted to comment on the cover.
I always hate buying an edition of a book with movie art on the front. Nothing ruins a copy of a Lord of the Rings book like stills from the films on the cover. Carrying that around just makes you look like such a joiner. I know-- it is big money marketing, and there is no stopping it.
But I gotta say, with an artist like Frida Kahlo, who painted so many incredible self protraits, it is just so lame to have a photo of Salma Hayek on the cover.
When I saw this book I had to laugh. If I ever buy this, you can bet it will have artwork by the actual artist on the front.

Deborah Werd. Ugly covers plague American bookshops.

Marcela I have the edition with her photograph on it. So far it is a great read, but hey, I love Frida.

message 3: by Sue (new) - added it

Sue Frost I have the 1983 paperback edition, it has one of Frida's self portraits on the cover.

message 4: by Misti (new)

Misti Rainwater-Lites Yeah, I won't buy this book on the basis of the cover "art" or lack thereof. I'm goddamn sick and tired of the idiocy of Hollywood and the American publishing industry. Viva la revolucion!

Bettie Very true!! I covered mine with a paper bag and drew on it as I read it.

Olivia I love it..

message 7: by Aar (new) - added it

Aar Jee Somebody said to me, "never judge a book by its cover". As far as my view is concerned, I used to choose books with artistic covers, but this advise made me think!!! Really artistic covers add interest to the book but it does not make any difference in writer's creativity and opinions.

Madelyn Rosen Look for a picture of Kahlo that you like and make a copy & put it on the front of the book. simple! Mais oiu??

message 9: by Katie (new)

Katie Agree one hundred percent.

message 10: by Lily (new)

Lily Agree. Weird.

Robin Chan Totally agree. So lame. Just stupid. Should be one of the many interesting photos of Frida, or her art.

Maritza My exact thoughts.

message 13: by Adia (new) - added it

Adia I completely agree and will do the same.

مدی رحیمی I agree.

Prima Seadiva Well said. The original edition has her own self portrait on the cover.

message 16: by George P. (new)

George P. Salma Hayak isn't even a Latino, she's Lebanese I believe (I did like her in the movie though).

message 17: by Unison (new) - added it

Unison Biomed for further stories read this article.

message 18: by Laureta (new) - added it

Laureta You are right!! I once took a book from my local library and it was Taylor Swift's face on a Danielle Steel's artwork. This makes me so angry.

message 19: by Pam (new) - added it

Pam Van Pletsen Hi , I cannot access the content ? Not sure why ...or maybe I am missing something ....are you able to help

message 21: by Sarah (new) - added it

Sarah Vasquez-Olson I hunted for this book without the actresses face. It bothers me as well.

message 22: by Chiara (new) - added it

Chiara Kasem Well said

message 23: by Kait (new)

Kait I was thinking the same exact thing

message 24: by YT (new) - added it

YT A couple of days ago I decided to look for something about Frida, when I saw this book I thought it was a sign...but the cover? What is Salma doing in the cover?!! If the actual Frida couldn't be used there were plenty of other options.

message 25: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Webb Richards I have skipped over this one solely because of its cover. It lost its authenticity..too bad..it might have been a good book!!!!

message 26: by Amy (new)

Amy Palmer couldn't agree more

message 27: by Betty (new) - added it

Betty Najafi hi who has the PdF if this book? I dont have this book😥

message 28: by Devan (new) - added it

Devan Hambrock Thank you! I was thinking of making my own cover with a Frida photo and gluing it on. No offense to Salma, but this isn’t a book about her.

message 29: by Turtle (new) - added it

Turtle Totally agree!

message 30: by Sonia (new) - added it

Sonia Luévano There is also a version of the book with one of her self portraits. This is the one I read. I agree that an actress on the cover takes away from the fact that it’s a biography. Nonetheless, the content is still the same and was a very good read. A lot more detail than most books on Frida.

message 31: by Christie (new) - added it

Christie I feel EXACTLY the same way! You are not alone, this drives me absolutely bananas. My kids are voracious readers & I insist that their books are not the new post-Hollywood cover versions. Don’t we all agree that the book is ALWAYS better than the movie?!! Then why downgrade a work of art by replacing the original cover with a fantastical shiny Hollywood version?

message 32: by Luisa (new)

Luisa yeeees thank you! I hate it when they put pictures of the film on a book cover. it's the worst :(

CorrettoreManuale You are right. No way about this cover. But the book is good, and there are others editions.

message 34: by Cecile (new)

Cecile Amen. I came to the reviews to make the very same comment. Frida Kahlo was exquisite. The publishers underestimated readers. We’d only read about her if a movie image was on the cover? Seriously?

message 35: by Raul (new)

Raul 100% agree

message 36: by Millie (new) - added it

Millie I totally agree with you Thomas!

message 37: by Elin (new) - rated it 4 stars

Elin Mine just have a photo of Frida on it, would never buy the Salma Hayek either😂

Miorix Judging a book by it’s cover much? 😄

message 39: by Stacey (new) - added it

Stacey D. I so agree about the cover art here. What a turnoff.

message 40: by Maria (new)

Maria Gonzalez Agree!!

message 41: by Nicole (new) - added it

Nicole Clark Yes!!

message 42: by Stacy (new) - added it

Stacy I actually dismissed the book completely because they used Selma Hayak on the cover. It’s a biography! About a real person!! Wha?!? After reading the reviews I may reconsider. It will be on my Kindle so I won’t have to see the cover again.

message 43: by Kerstin (new)

Kerstin Bachedi Absolutely right!

Stephanie I ordered one published in the UK for this reason! It has a beautiful photo of her on the cover by Nikolas Muray.

message 45: by Mark (new) - added it

Mark Latham Si senor! I concur.

Emily Decker I'm currently reading the edition with one of Frida's actual self portraits on the cover. Much better to look at I agree. But regardless I am loving the book.

message 47: by ė (new) - rated it 2 stars

ė Domarkaitė-Sugintė Couldn’t agree more. At least Lithuanian edition has Frida’s painting on the cover!

Sigita Strimaite Totaly agree, I am listening to audio book, still happy to see "book cover" with Frida self-portrait on it.

message 49: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Came here looking for this. Thanks for saying it

Eleanor i have an edition which the cover is still a still from the movie, but one of those stills made to recreate her paintings, it’s a version of the “two fridas but with her with cropped hair and her in a red dress instead. still wish it wasn’t from the movie but it’s a much nicer cover
