An oddly satisfying and enjoyable read. A woman who is consumed with self pity that she can not afford a nice dress or beautiful jewelry borrows a necklace from a friend for a ball and then loses it. Then ensues a lesson of ten years and even more aging for the materialistic woman. Seeing the ending approach and guessing the lesson, I always wondered why women care so much for expensive jewelry and pretty dresses. I relate it to social media today. The woman gets the jealousy and admiration of other women at the ball when she is seen with the baubles, just like empty likes on an Instagram page. Do these people really know you? Do they care? No, it's a measurement of self worth that is fleeting. A good story and an even better lesson.
