I cannot say I would have ever picked this beast of a book up had it not been for the recent movie adaptations. To say I was confused through a lot of the book is an understatement. Had it not been for the movie, I think it would have been fairly difficult for me to comprehend a lot of the book's nuances. More explanation throughout would have been extremely useful–it felt like there was no leadup to a lot of information or description of really anything to do with this world–just plopped straight into the story and expected to understand all the power dynamics. And this is a story of politics...which is not the most interesting of plots to me personally. I don't know that I'll continue the series, it sounds like I'll probably end up more confused. However, after watching the movie before reading the book, I think having this elaborate background knowledge really expands upon the things learned from the movie!

One minor thing that annoyed me about the writing was how drawn out words (an "ahhhh" or something like that) was written as an "Ah-h-h-h" instead. Which, in my brain as I'm reading, was really jerky and annoying lol, I read it more as a stutter in my head. And yes. We get it. Chani has elfin features. Not necessary to repeat it every time she is mentioned. I am excited though to see how the rest of this book is adapted!
