it was amazing
bookshelves: 2023-reading-challenge, politics, non-fiction, biographical

I anticipated reading this over at least a week, but couldn’t sleep last night, so read all night!
What a read, and what an inspirational young woman. It’s heartbreaking to see what she went through, but in the same breath fascinating and insightful to see the way she came through with such character and strength of conviction.
I’m not an American, but have been fascinated by the way politics have played out over the past decade. This will be yet another resource for historians to pour over in future, and gain insight into the chaos the GOP appears to be cascading into.
Thoroughly recommend this as a read for anyone looking to vote in 2024 and for any young women making their way in corporate or government careers today.

DIANE Y. PETERSEN What a remakable young woman. In this book she explains how she rose to a position of influence and became a bystander to a tragic part of our American saga at a very young age.. She is a staunch conservative republican, beginning in her undergarduate days and continues with those beliefs rather than being disillusioned by people she admired and believed in from the beginning of her Washington career. Her resolve makes her more credible. She gives me hope that we may once again have two functioning political parties in this country and that there are young people out there who are learning about how democracy really works and the importance of rule of law. That she would put her responsibility to history and the citizens of this country before herself is astounding since she was surrounded by older more seasoned representatives of our government who put their own fame and self interests before anything or anyone else.
I highly recommend this book. Not because it is well written, but because it is a wonderful story of courage and self sacrifice. It is about an example more of us should follow.

Julie I think it’s inaccurate to call her a bystander. She was very much involved in the cult atmosphere that enabled Trump and led to the insurrection.
