it was ok

This was one of those books that were hard to put down, but it wasn't terribly enjoyable. In the beginning, I liked it well enough. Christopher's narrative was interesting, and there were some really funny parts. But in the long run, I felt frustrated and angry at most of the characters. Christopher's parents were both horrible people, his father hitting him so hard he bled and his mother leaving and blaming it on Christopher even telling him she found it to be his fault. Chris himself was pretty terrible at times. Another thing that really bothers me about this book was I went and did some research and learned that the author did minimal research on autism. In fact he confessed that he did more research on the railway system than he did on autism. Therefore it brings an interesting question to the table, should we count Christopher as a good representation of ASD or as a cold caricature? It was just a really frustrating novel to read with frustrating characters and a plot that was mostly watered down with Christopher's monologs about math or the existence of God. It's not quite worth the hype
