Okay

I have been struggling with this book for awhile now and finally finished in an airport because of a delayed flight. It seems I just could not get into the story but continued to push myself since it is considered such an influence on popular culture of almost 100 years ago.

The truth is, while I enjoy the writing style of this novel, it really is just a personal manifesto dressed up as a 'sexy dirty' book. DH Lawrence is all about hating the Industrial Revolution and basically crafts a scenario to push his viewpoint. It is a valid one but he scarfices character development to let his various characters expound on a world view. It was some beautiful passages and brings up some interesting ideas but Ayn Rand takes on the same goals but with much more effect.

That said, it is worth a read to see how popular ficition can be used as a gateway for personal adgenda.
