did not like it

** spoiler alert ** Story and concept behind this book were really interesting, but I am not a fan of Stephenie Meyer's execution. I have the same issue with her other books as well. Most significantly, I think this book needed some serious editing, a lot of unnecessary and repetitive detail. Some other issues I had:

-The 'instantaneous' love Wanda felt for Jared, she falls in love with him based solely on some memories? It did not work for me and I felt it would have been much more powerful and interesting to have Melanie as the sole source of the romantic emotions.
-A lot of echoes from the Twilight series, especially Breaking Dawn
-The male/female power imbalance and huge age difference between Mel and Jared, plus Wanda settling into the body of a 16yo and everyone treating her like a pet. Why must her romantic figures be pseudo father figures? I find it creepy.
-A lot of things that come up seem to be a throwback to the 1950s, hysterical women getting slapped for example just does not sit well with me

Having said that, Meyer's writing technique is improving somewhat and she is getting better at the 'show don't tell' aspect of it.
