WOWZA what a creepy, uncomfortable read! I am not usually a huge fan of “spoiled white people behaving badly but this takes it to a different place. Anna is the black sheep of the family, and not really in a cute way. It’s a strange tension, because even though you are rooting for Anna - because her family really Does Not See Her - she’s also kind of an asshole, too? It’s messy is what I’m saying, and gave me a lot to think about! There is also supernatural horror, and it is creepy and gross and weird - but honestly I think the horror of the family dynamics is going to stay with me longer. Most of the book is set in a small villa in Italy, and the setting is excellent! For fans of contemporary horror, dysfunctional families, sibling dynamics, ghost stories, unlikable protagonists, and stories set on vacation.
