The Great Gatsby

'The Great Gatsby' is one of my favourite novels, not because of all the 20s parties or the intrigue surrounding Gatsby but, because the characters represent, for me, all the different kinds of people you meet on your walk through life. I honestly do not understand how anyone cannot enjoy this novel, even if it is just a little bit. F.Scott Fitzgerald uses Nick to portray a fascinating story filled with intrigue, hope and emotion. The ending of the novel will forever be one of those quotes that sticks in my mind, how "we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past." The "green light" that Gatsby believes in reminds me of the ending of Twain's 'Huckleberry Finn': "I got to light out for the territory ahead of the rest"- they both have great hopes for what the future can bring.
