it was ok

I don't really feel like I need to write my own review of this. Ivanna S. did an excellent job of describing all the problems with it. After an initial slog through some solid tedium, though, I thought the story picked up enough for a little bit of entertainment, so I rated it two stars, as opposed to the one star Ivanna S. gave it.

Check out the Ivanna S. review of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo for a more thorough overview. The comments on her review are generally pretty good, too.

note: I finished the book, whereas Ivanna S. had not as of the time she wrote that review. It doesn't make much difference, though. Stieg Larsson's bad writing simply cannot reasonably be attributed solely to bad translation. The fact the pace picked up a bit, making it a more brisk and slightly more entertaining read, is not much of a rehabilitation of its value in my opinion, either. If I never read this book, my life would not be any poorer for it, and I would have been better off spending that time on a better book. The main benefit of having finished it is knowing definitively why I disagree with people who loved the book.
