really liked it
bookshelves: fantasy, ya, 2009

After all the closure in the previous book in the series, Carpe Corpus, I was curious as to where Caine was going to go in this entry. I kept on wondering for over half the book since there didn't seem to be any REAL conflict besides a couple little squabbles here and there. At the time, I found myself hooked - because I love the series - but not devouring the book because there just wasn't that much going on.

Then things started taking shape and I gobbled up the second half in no time. There are a lot of new plot threads established in the second half for future books... lots of little mysteries/Oh-No-What-Is-Going-To-Happen-Now-isms and a couple big ones too. I can't wait for the next book - a year from now?! Let the suffering begin... :)

There was loads of Myrnin in this book, to my heart's delight. I do love Claire, but Myrnin is a favorite. There was more background provided on Amelie and Oliver which was nice because I've always liked Oliver even though he's not necessarily a good guy, but then again, he's not all bad either. No straight black and white in this series.

Very much enjoyed this entry and can't wait for the next one. :)

4-1/2 stars.

Ky I read your review and felt like I'd found a kindred spirit in certain ways... I've always liked Oliver as well. And Myrnin is definitely one of my favourites.

Keenan Arterton For some reason, I've always had a crush On Myrinn, His image in my imagination is quite alluring. And in the String of swear words from the 5th, He became my favourite character alongside with Shane
