I still don’t know how to rate BR. It’s a solid 4? A 3,75??? 5??? 🫠
I can understand people who like this book, but I completely understand those who give it a -3 star rating too. I loved Gus and January’s romance, everything about them was amazing, their histories made me wanna cry at 2 am and I really relate to Janie (us emotional girls). It’s adorable how Gus is totally in love with January, they’re in my heart now! Even tho, I’m kinda sad, I think they deserved more development and attention from the author. ❤️
The father’s part made me so freaking angry, you guys don’t know how much. I almost DNFD, it’s one of the reasons I’m not giving it 5 stars and why I was considering 3.75 as rating. I didn't like that the writer talked more about her father's lover than about January’s mother, a victim of betrayal. I cannot handle with the fact that he cheated on his wife while she was sick. He had two lives when his daughter and wife were suffering. He’s an asshole, so stupid. I don’t want to talk about those readers who are defending Sonya, because she’s woman. Sonya is guilty as he is, she said that they didn’t cheat as much. THIS IS NOT NORMAL. I hate deeply this situation on the story, this made me wanna throw the book out the window. I am sure January was forced by the plot to forgive her father.
I enjoyed Gus and Janie’s writing process with the Taylor Swift references (they made me want to write again), however I thought it was missing something more, a plot twist, more setting. There was a lack of adult conversations, I wanted to know more about Gus' background and see Janie get closer to her mom again, instead of reading about the cult and silly scenes. Emily's writing is amazing and beautiful. I read 𝙗𝙚𝙖𝙘𝙝 𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙙 in one sitting until finished on April 1.
Anyways, I’m looking forward to reading her other works, I don’t know, but I feel I’m going to love Happy Place! 💖
