It was good, but not great.
The writing was fun and fast paced. Liked the entire setting. Chess commentary was compelling. The characters were loveable.
It was cheesy, it was fun and I had a great time 😌
Some problems I had with this book:
1. The language was quite crass. It's not the cursing that I mind, but the excess of it?
2. The third act breakup 😭 (Nolan did NOT deserve that)
3. I'm not entirely sure this was a YA book since it was quite explicit and the writing was kinda crude.
4. Random tiktok references and random Gen Z slang were occasionally thrown into random conversations? That was off putting.
