Dr. Rue Siebert isn’t like others girls �� she has trauma and doesn’t like people but still enjoys sex. Have you ever met someone like that? I know I sure haven’t! Neither has Eli, who is so overcome with lust upon clapping eyes on Rue that he risks his career to tap dat ass. Rue, who has few personality traits besides dissociation and being kind of mean, is always surprised when the highly-educated people around her aren’t total idiots because she thinks she’s the smartest cookie in the jar. Eli worships the ground Rue walks on and delights in her random rudeness and general unlikeability �� if she stabbed him in the eye, he’d probably orgasm to death. If you fear that this is too far removed from a typical Ali Hazelwood book, rest assured: the dude is extremely tall and the two people hooking up feel guilty about it because of Plot Circumstances, just like every other AH creation. You may finish this book wondering exactly what it is about the mysterious, aloof, robotic Rue that has Eli in such a chokehold (aside from various parts of her body, which he cannot stop objectifying) and if you figure it out let me know because I’ve got nothing.
