A Fate Inked in Blood (Saga of the Unfated, #1)

Okaaay this was a snoozefest 🥱
The cover, the blurb, had me all hyped up. I really wanted to like this. But I'm massively disappointed. I thought this was going to be this grand, high stakes, epic fantasy but this is just a pile of hot mess.
I'd have dnfed this one had it not been our bookclub pick and the fact that I purchased a special edition soooo 😓
The pacing is weird. They went from war buddies to her dreaming about their kids real quick. Girl you don't even know this guy.
The story just kept dragging till the last 40 pages. It'd have easily been a novella
The PLOT!
WHERE IS THE PLOT!? Our main characters have superpowers but that's it. They could tackle anything if they actually used their powers and brains. The characters seem to have so much potential at the beginning but they were just pawns of these highlords.
You can't even argue that it's a character study since these characters don't do nothing.
The plot picked up out of nowhere at 75% in.
Freya is just one bad decision after another 😓
The whole thing was predictable except one jaw-dropping reveal that too offering crumbs.
Characters -
Freya, initially seemed promising as a strong and independent character, her development fell short as the story progressed.
Freya is nothing but Snorris puppet.
She's supposed be this sassy, selfless, brave and powerful badass woman. But nah she just has her little moments of victory that too because of Hlin's power. She can't do anything without that.
Bjorn is StRoNG, hot, sexy as hell and seems kind. That's his whole personality. Bye.
These characters are very one-dimensional.
Why don't Freya and Bjorn just take Snorri down and fight. The story is dragging on for the sake of it.
Furthermore, the romantic subplot between Freya and Bjorn, which should have provided depth and complexity to the narrative, felt contrived and lacking in authenticity. Their relationship seemed to hinge solely on superficial attraction, devoid of the genuine chemistry and connection.
Mild spoiler
Being insta lusty bit Freya in the back
I was more than halfway through and still not sure why either of them is attracted to the other. We get it! She's drop dead gorgeous and he is sexy as hell, but is that it? Why do they really like each other??
The author tells but doesn't show.
Don't get me started on Freya's family. Those people suck. Why does she keep sacrificing herself for those selfish pricks is beyond me. They seriously sold her off.
Rather than delivering the high-stakes, epic fantasy experience I had anticipated, the narrative unfolded in a lackluster manner, failing to sustain my interest 😫
Bjorn, you traitor! I'm glad I hated your stupid haircut 🗣
Didn't enjoy, don't recommend 🤷🏻♀
