** spoiler alert **
I neither hated or loved this book. It was alright.
However.. I was very disappointed in the character development. I didn’t feel a strong connection to any of the characters. And for me this the most important aspect of a book. Unlike the characters in the ACOTAR series, none of them felt very realistic (Besides Chaol of course). He’s far superior to Dorian and honestly every other character in this book. How could anyone swoon over a whiny prince who does nothing but observe?? He wants Celaena “so bad yet he does nothing to protect her when Cain is ripping her apart? I almost laughed out loud when he came to visit Celaena while she was healing and whined about how he was so tired; Then asked if he could lay on her bed. After which, he just trauma dumped? Like she couldn’t even breathe without being in pain and you’re gonna plop on the bed next to her and whine?
The duel scene with Cain and Celaena reminded me of the trials that Feyre went through in ACOTAR. The whole time Rhys was fighting for her with all he had.
Dorian is really giving Tamlin
Not trying to compare. But how could I not? Maybe I set my self up for failure by reading the ACOTAR series first.
Anyways, the plot was interesting enough, pretty slow moving until the last half of the book but that’s how SJM novels go. (No shade, I love Sarah J. Maas).
I’m planning on continuing this series in hope that I will grow closer to the characters (And get more Chaol!!)
Also.. I’ve seen so many different orders in which to read this series and I don’t know which book to read next? Assassins blade? If anyone has any recommendations please share.
