From Hell is ghastly, prophetic, and a deeply compassionate period piece. From the writer we all love to mischaracterize as an unwashed curmudgeon from Central England, we get not a who done it, but instead it’s explored as a “why done it with an airy, ethereal theme of all of it being interconnected. I believe its greatest achievement is in the heartbreakingly honest, yet fictional betrayals of the women who were murdered, as the dedication in the introduction from Mr. Moore briefly calls out. Eddie Campbell's artwork challenged me as all good art should do, unmasking my ignorance. I've seen some people take offense to it, which is understandable as it requires a bit a patience while kickstarting the mind and filling in the emotions. If it wasn't for this book, we'd be less of a nickname for Neil "Scary Trousers" Gaiman so I think with that, this experiment was a great success and should be never optioned by a movie studio who will plaster droning techno diarrhea across the great cobblestones of Whitechapel.
