A fun romp, and a Steam Punk classic. Pure escapism, with stunning, non-standard fantasy ideas, and an action-driven plot that is pure popcorn. best of all, Powers' style is clean and simple. Before you know it, you'll be pulled in several hundred pages.
I do not want to give any spoilers, but suffice it to say that the plot involves time travel, Egyptian magic, doppelgangers, and a romp through 19th Century London complete with robbers' guilds and secret societies.
Recommended. Not earth-shattering, but a well-written and enjoyable page-turner.
