I tried to get into this. I really tried. But ALL of the characters are so 1 dimensional it almost put me to sleep a few times. The only White man is a complete asshole (gee, coincidence ?), all the Portuguese men care about is booze and a sh1t ton of meat to eat, everyone is ungrateful for having been rescued. and yeah, I know this is supposed to take place in the 1600s and all, but every single woman is there just to serve and be a courtesan. Why the F is this book so popular??
