I didn’t ever really feel like I knew what January and Gus looked like. There were parts in the plot that dragged on for me unnecessarily. && I don’t feel like I really understood why Gus liked January so much in college; that was never revealed.
Also, IMO but it’s not super romantic when a guy’s ex-wife comes back after two years and he needs a couple of days to think about whether to stay with you or go back to her after she left him for his best friend. && then his speech to January is basically like “yeah, I could get back together with her, I can see myself with her, but I want to explore being with you instead.� Like, hard pass.
&& then I didn’t feel like her feeling towards her dad were ever resolved. We read the letters, but does she forgive him??
I enjoyed the dialogue and the banter. At no point were they reading in a beach.
