Nyktos/Ash is the best male character ever. He comes off as very cold and calculating in the first book, but the more times he spends with Sera, his heartmate, the more soft and buttery he gets. Although after he learns of her plans to kill him to stop the rot in the mortal realm, he becomes cold again. Plus a lot of his guards donโ€™t trust her, like Rhain. But they make a deal, pleasure for the sake of pleasure. Fucking with no strings attached. Simple right? Not in the slightest. Especially when youโ€™re being fucked by someone as hot and attractive as Ash. That little chapter where he fucks her in his bathtub? Fucking yummy. Man what I wouldnโ€™t give to trade places with Sera when I read these chapters. As the book goes on Sera realizes she wants to become his consort in more than just title only. She has feelings for Ash, as he does for her. We do find out that Ash had his kardia removed, the thing that makes it possible for all beings to love one another. Heโ€™s incapable of loving another. But that doesnโ€™t mean he doesnโ€™t care for Sera deeply.

Okay onto other characters, loved little baby Jadis and Reaver. Theyโ€™re the cutest drakens ever! Even though they seem to be asleep every time we read about them. I guess those tiny bodies need a ton of rest to become hulking drakens one day. Veses is an absolute cunt, sheโ€™s the primal of rites and prosperity. She has her fangs into our beloved Ash, just not in the way we first think. Iโ€™m sure if she were mortal sheโ€™d inspire a few homicides. Sheโ€™s an infuriatingly beautiful character, on the outside at least anyways. I pretty much like all of Nyktosโ€™s guards, they all have their own quirky personalities and traits, like Bele Orphine. They donโ€™t trust Sera, rightfully so of course. But they do warm up to her evantually.

Okay so itโ€™s talked about a lot in these books, the embers of life. Sera had two rebels inside her, one of life and death. I think itโ€™s death at least. It think am ember of death. Iโ€™ve lost track. Anyways, these remembers are important to keeping balance in both realms so they need to get them out of Sera and into Ash so he can become the true primal of life, like he was always meant to be. You find out later on towards the end of the book that the embers have melded with Sera and are now rightfully hers. Or maybe we learn that in book three? Either way, the embers need to come out of her. Apparently she wouldnโ€™t survive an ascension as a mortal. Itโ€™s quite apparent that whatever Sera is is it mortal. I mean sheโ€™s probably half mortal at least. There was a lot of confusion about Poppy throughout all five books about her heritage. She was thought to be mortal too. But her true mother was a demis, something that is created when theyโ€™re not the third sons or daughters with eather in them, and her father, the god Ires. Poppy is the true primal of life, but because so much time passed when it happened to Sera, they werenโ€™t aware of who Poppy was or what she was becoming. Itโ€™s confusing at first because every time we think we know who she is and what her heritage might be something changes with her and youโ€™re just left like โ€œwhat the fuck?โ€ I think family histories need to be recorded more in these books, who the father was and the mother. It would lead to a lot less confusion.

These books are quite the addiction for me. Itโ€™s like watching two trains about to collide and you just canโ€™t look away because of how in awe you are of these characters. Sera and Ash are made for each other, itโ€™s just that Sera realizes that before Ash does. They have some hot as hell sex in this book, lots of juicy scenes that still have me repeatedly skipping chapters to get to the next one. Yes Iโ€™m still failing in that regard, but itโ€™s worth it. I love this series!
