really liked it
bookshelves: birds, non-fiction, self-help, morality, science

I like reading about birds and so do I like reading philosophy. So when I came across this book I was very eager to read it. It's a promising read but I do have some reservations.

First of all the accuracy about scientific facts of bird life is very much on point. The place where it gets little murkier is when it talks about drawing parallels with philosophical discourses. There is a very thin line between stating a scientific/ecological phenomenon and then extrapolating it to human discourse. Because in the natural world one might find examples for anything and everything. This just means that you can choose some facts and present a picture which might not be entirely true or false.

Having said that there are some beautiful thoughts also which one might like to read and reflect in the book. It may please us to believe that we are all powerful, above other species, that we can use nature to our own ends, but this is an illusion. Perhaps the day we decide to protect birds will be the day we decide to protect ourselves.
