it was ok
bookshelves: not-my-thing

Ugh. I used to write and then I took some time away from it, and someone suggested this book to me to inspire me. It did exactly the opposite. Lamott makes writing sound like passing a kidney stone, and it doesn't have to be that way.

Melanie Check out "Writing Down the Bones" for something more inspiring and exciting. It seems, to me, to be a counter to this.

Kim Langley Lucky you. It was right on the money for some of us. Good thing she wrote it for us! I'm grateful.

Alcieta ... I want to frame this review.

Amanda's Agreed, Melanie - "Writing Down the Bones" is so much better. "Bird by Bird" is massively overrated... I'm not sure why.

message 5: by Drew (new)

Drew Sparrow Disagreed, her use of personal connections to the story helps make the reader feel closer to her reasoning and sure it drags on but it gets to the whole purpose of the book which is to detail the methods of writing.
