it was ok

** spoiler alert ** I don’t know why Oprah chose this for her book club. The story draws you in, but true to the author’s form he leaves it all up in the air at the end. I read the first in the series expecting some closure in the 2nd only to be left hanging once again. I don’t think I’ll be reading anything else from this author if this is his M.O.

Alyce Shikano I totally agree. Left hanging once again. I do not plan on reading anything else from this author again either.

Marie B. I’m done with him too. I abandoned this 75% of the way in because infidelity is not my jam, I get no joy in reading about that and this book is all that and nothing else. Oprah’s been disappointment the last few years.

Oprah doesn’t help new authors anymore. She only picks repeat authors. I doubt she even reads them.

Jennifer Mills Kerr I love many of Toibin's books, but not this one. Without closure, I felt cheated. Not that everything needs to be wrapped up neatly, but certainly the characters themselves shouldn't convey the feeling: what's happening? Ambiguity isn't the same as confusion!
