really really beautiful story about finding yourself. lowk a really hard read at times. i felt like i learned so much about history through this read. not only about the history of smyrna and the turks, but also segregation and the history of detroit altogether. not to mention what i learned about being an intersex person. i loved being taken through the generations. however, at some points, i wasn’t a fan of the julie plot line that happened throughout, because in the beginning, i had absolutely no idea what to expect and didn’t understand the significance at all. the book REALLY picked up at the end. however, every historical part of it was really important to the end results. just wow. i feel like i know so much now. i’d recommend for anyone
