“It’s not what happens to you, but how you react to it that matters.

“No man is free who is not master of himself.

“It is impossible for a man to learn what he thinks he already knows.

“Only the educated are free.

“Wealth consists not in having great possessions, but in having few wants.

“It’s not what happens to you, but how you react to it that matters. (X2)

“You can chain my leg, but you cannot chain my will.

Epictetus, the slave-philosopher, blows my mind. This has stood the test of time, after two thousand years. Literally, you could break his leg but not his spirit. The mindset, the short sentences, and the influence of this ancient philosopher is massive in practical life of not in philosophy. Every remarkable person has probably internalized these ideas. To keep for life.
