In Pixie Hollow, most fairies come from children's first laughs. But the rulers are special - they come from wished-upon falling stars. Queen Elvina has ruled for many years, and Princess Clarion is the next queen, born from a star.

Clarion will become queen in one month, but she doesn't feel ready. Every fairy has a special talent, and as a royal, she has powerful starlight magic and can teleport. This magic should protect Pixie Hollow and give hope to all fairies. Even with friends like Petra (a tinker fairy) and her guard Artemis, Clarion feels lonely and out of place.

As the coronation gets closer, Pixie Hollow is attacked by monsters called Nightmares, which look like people's worst fears. These creatures escaped from the Winter Woods - a place Warm Season fairies aren't allowed to visit. Warm Season fairies avoid Winter because they don't trust Winter fairies and because crossing between seasons can destroy their wings.

Clarion decides to find answers, even though Queen Elvina tells her not to. She goes to the bridge between Spring and Winter, where she meets Lord Milori, the leader of Winter Woods.

Clarion sneaks into Winter at night after finding a way to protect her wings. She discovers the Nightmares are escaping from a prison as dream-talent fairies become fewer. Milori thinks Clarion's starlight magic, which connects to dreams, makes her the only one who can help stop this threat.

As they work together to save both fairy lands, Clarion and Milori start to have feelings for each other. But they're running out of time - the Nightmares get stronger every day.
