While I was entertained by Catherine Newman’s humor, I did not get the hype on this book. I found Rocky to be annoying and overreactive to everything. Maybe others can relate more to her menopausal funk, but I could not. She was way too much in her own head. Nick was a saint and I have no idea how he put up with her! While this was a great premise for a novel, it fell flat for me because I could not relate to how Rocky handled things in her life. I am 66 and have been through all of these things except the gay child. And does sexuality have to be addressed in every book or show these days? I found it a bit tiresome to be part of this short book but I did love how Rocky and family accepted and loved Willa unconditionally. BUT that’s just me and my opinion!
I would have hated to have read this book at 40 and think life in menopause and the sandwich generation would be that difficult. It can be but most women I know are stronger than Rocky and roll with life better. Just not a realistic picture- again in my opinion!
