Wanting: The Power of Mimetic Desire in Everyday Life

Gosh, this was an interesting book - about something I had never considered - that affects literally EVERYTHING about our lives.
Mimesis is another term for imitation or mimicry. This book is all about why we want what we want. It is about how our desires are shaped and who shapes them - and the good and bad effects mimesis can have - not only on ourselves, but also on the world/culture at large.
It is something worth thinking about!
A few of my favorite quotes:
💡”In a world of engineered desires, we have to wonder who is doing the engineering.
💡”Our culture is stuck because we are competing for space in a pool that is right next to the ocean.
💡”Our desires are only as big or as small as the models they are exposed to .
I enjoyed the audio of this one quite a bit!
