it was amazing

Wow. What to say about that which is like nothing? First thing I suppose is that if you haven't an Oxford English Dictionary, get one when you pick this up. Mr. McCarthy has a vocabulary the likes of which I have, at 36 years old, never before glimpsed. There is a bit of Spanish dialogue too in this book and yet there is more in English that you will need to look up.
That aside, this is no book for a casual reader. At least in my opinion. It is what I might call a difficult book and it is beautifully so. It is so thick with gorgeous, florid metaphor that, as I read, I was well aware I would not have had any comprehension of earlier in my life with a lesser accumulation of learning and of experience. Even still I am sure that in another 36 years another reading will yield an even more rich experience that I currently have no means of even glimpsing and am only aware of in the way that I am aware of death.
I wholeheartedly recommend this book to everyone with the suspicion that only mere chance would garner one out of a dozen that would enjoy it the way I did. And that is a statement neither about me nor any would-be reader but about my take on the experience of reading this book.
