Magyk (Septimus Heap, #1)

Children should read this book as a lesson of what a novel should not be. The plot is pathetic and weak, careening all over the place without ever forming into a cohesive story line. I listened to hour after hour, and it felt an awful lot like when you are listening to someone who takes an hour to tell you a simple story about some mundane task like going to the grocery store. Their story is never all that interesting in the first place, but the fact that they manage to drag it out for such an insufferable length of time just makes it all the more wearying. The complete lack of depth in the characters does not help this already dreadful book either. Most of them were so blasé and undistinguishable that I would often get them confused with each other. I don’t see this story holding the attention of children, and given this, I see them getting extremely lost in the convoluted plot. There is far superior reading choices out there for children to read. I highly recommend bypassing this series and moving on to one that they could actually get into and enjoy.

"Superior reading choices"
Like Harry Potter? Whose world seems half-baked and the most patient character {Sirius Black} ends up whining like a little toddler? YEAH. GREAT PLAN, Mrs. HaughtyBook.
