The Stars, Like Dust (Galactic Empire, #1)

Asimov is a legend, and rightly so. This is one of his first books, written in 1951, and it shows. Both the first book part and the 1951 part, what with the 1950s sexism, the nuclear wasteland that is future Earth, and a part at the very end I won't spoil. But you can see the future Asimov in there. Really, it's a testament to the advice to keep writing. Your first book may be so-so, but if you don't stop writing, you might create some amazing science fiction. I loved his robot books as a teenager. There is also a fair amount of actual science in this book, which often went over my head but might be enjoyable for some readers.
