Oddly, this is the second book I’ve read about the Ashinaabe (odd because I’d never heard of this tribe until having read Moon of the Crusted Snow yesterday). Unsurprisingly, it shared some of the same mythology, for lack of a better word on my part, and absolutely no disrespect meant - I realize it may be considered rude to call it mythology, and I’m sorry for my language limitations.
My only gripe about the book was that I wish the villain had been someone else. Without giving away spoilers, I wish this because the group of people the villain represents is very often villainized as it is, along with Arab/Muslim and Sikh men, North Koreans, Chinese, and Mexican/Colombian cartels, all of which perpetuate stereotypes - time to get some new bad guys.
