quick note: i read this book in dutch so i can’t say a lot about quotes or how good the translation was as i haven’t read the original written work

i can’t reminder when the last time was when i read a YA romance, but now i kinda miss it😭✋��

as some might’ve read in my updates, i’m interviewing the translators who translated it to dutch. that’s the reason why i read this. i don’t think i would’ve picked it up if it wasn’t for that.
I truly enjoyed Ali’s first book The Love Hypothesis, even read it on release date before all the hype surrounding her even started. The rest of her books never really talked to me. And that’s okay. Sometimes you only need to read one book by an author and leave it be.

But im glad i read this book because jesus christ did i relate to the eldest daughter theme🤡
(really mean to call me out like that huh?)

I wouldn’t necessarily classify this as a YA romance. it’s just a contemporary with romance in it, and i’m talking about the BARE MINIMUM.
this was about Mallory and her very rock relationship with chess and the way she perceived herself and her life. it was actually kinda eye opening to read about because ew i do some things she did and i found myself ugly crying over the last 50 pages because of that👍🏼

other than the fact that it’s a LOT of chess talk i don’t really have anything to say. i like chess. i like using my brain and i loved the way chess was used in a lot of ways to explain the way of thinking the characters did.

so uhm if you don’t like chess, i wouldn’t read this lol

anyway, i’m about to turn on the Queen’s gambit and download a chess app on my phone to gain a new hyperfixation for the next 2 weeks🫶🏼
