I love Poe, but sometimes he just doesn't hit the mark. In this one, he's trying to write a story about why the little Frenchman has a sling, and I think it's supposed to be funny, but it is anything but. The Irish brogue was so distracting, it was difficult to understand. After a rereading, it got easier and probably could have gotten more out of it after a third reading, but it just wasn't enough for me There are many of his stories that are so much better than this one.
