Infuriating.

Expletive-laced spoiler-rant
The big mystery here, for me, and one that I never felt was clearly explained was this: (view spoiler)[Why the fuck did Cory/Grace not choose to be with Liam, who was clearly someone she couldn’t stay away from? Why, exactly, did she think being with Liam, openly as a couple, wasn’t a good idea? That it somehow wouldn’t work? She gave non-answers/explanations throughout their 50 or so years relationship. Pooh-poohing his proposals. You continued seeing each other, in secret, for decades! Outside of working together at Noone Properties. What’s not working? You’re clearly drawn to each other!

And then in the last year of her life, she finally agrees that they can be together - to live together, but not get married. Fine. That’s the arrangement you could have had with each other from the fucking start! Why go through decades of this being strung along behaviour? And marrying other people yet remaining in each other’s lives while continuing to harbor romantic feelings? This is not romantic love; it’s toxic. This type of “loyalty� is not romantic or admirable. Different name, same character
This is the second Laura Dave book that I’ve read. The first one being The Last Thing He Told Me . The main character in that book is Hannah, and I didn’t think the main character in this book - Nora - was that distinct from Hannah. They could have been the same person.
Like Hannah, Nora is smart, inquisitive and has a dogged determination to find answers.
