Deceiver (Foreigner, #11)

C.J. Cherryh's masterful sci-fi series continues with this 11th book. Obviously, this is not the place to start this series.
Bren has returned to the Atevi planet to find himself embroiled in a conspiracy. A renegade Atevi Lord is attempting to pull off a coup in a region that was under Tabani's control. The fallout from this will call into question Bren's place in society, as well as the complex politics of Atevi life.
This series stahnds out for the political and societal conflicts it deals with. It's very different than the action-adventure fare that is usually associated with sci-fi. This is a deeper, more complex story. It shines when we are able to compare human thought with the Atevi and how this affects the conflicts.
The joy of the series, besides the complex politics, is in the development of the main characters as they progress through the story.
