Sometimes you read a book because you just need to feel good. This book is that! Starting off a little fast paced, the book settles into likable complex characters that make you fall in love with them and the story.
It’s a book I wish middle schoolers would read instead of books for people double their age.
What drew me to the book? The promise of a Japanese version of the princess diaries. I just can’t say no to a girl finding out she’s a princess…even more so when it’s a diverse cast, there’s the setting of Japan in it, I get to relive the type of books that made me fall in love with reading when I was younger.
This book has the perfect balance of humility, romance, life lessons, feminism, and most importantly love and self discovery. It’s a fun journey to embark on and I loved reading how Izumi merged her two selves to find balance.
Although the premise is similar I don’t consider this a princess diaries retelling, it is an amazing journey of it own.
Those looking for something light but also feel good will find it in these pages. Laugh, cry, maybe find yourself wanting to catch a flight to Japan.
