This is my first experience with a Lauren Connolly book, and I found it to be quite impressive—reminiscent of other romance authors like Emily Henry, yet uniquely enjoyable in its own right.
The story is a poignant, forced proximity romance featuring a brother's best friend and a second chance at love. It follows two individuals as they navigate their grief over the loss of their friend/brother to cancer, embarking on a road trip to scatter his ashes across eight states. The narrative is rich with emotional depth, includes representation of disability (the female main character has asthma), and is filled with plenty of angst and longing.
I’m giving this book 4 stars because I felt the inclusion of a sex scene was unnecessary. The story was so engaging on its own—unlike some other books by such authors like Hannah Grace, which often rely on such scenes to enhance their appeal. In my opinion, a lengthy 10-page sex scene wasn’t needed here.
