So, I don't even really read much manga, but this one appeared in my road and shattered its way through my heart in a way that's hard to put into words.
"Grey is..." is a story that’s often-times breath-taking, both warm & cold, black & white and all the shades in between. It’s about the complicated and yet so strong friendship of two guys; about their troubled family situations and the way they both deal with it, alone and together.
This volume is just the beginning. It introduces the mc, Black, his view on the world, his hatred for the “grey�� in this life, and the return of the most important thing he forgot about: his best friend, White. The visuals are built on a lot of powerful metaphors that get addressed more in the following volumes. It’s that kind of story that can be read & enjoyed even for readers that don’t like to over-analyze stuff - for its sweet interactions between characters, for its well-handled sensitive topics, for the contrast between these two themes�� but I gotta say, looking into the details can be very rewarding too!

The thing that makes this story stand out to me is its lack of romance *(not complete lack, but it’s definitely not the focus), honestly. Y’all are sleeping on stories without romance. This is one of the most entertaining and lovely stories that I’ve ever read specifically because of its lack of romance. It serves as a sweet reminder that sometimes all we need is a friend to�� hold us in the rain and tell us that we are not weak, to hold our hand, to be there.

If you like strong stories with well-written sensitive topics (beware of the trigger warnings), morally gray characters and relationships, poetic quotes, well-thought visuals, casual intimacy between besties and overall a beautiful mix of gut-wrenching angst, fights & heart-warming silly moments, then you should totally pick this one up.
