Fire

Menacing and deceitful, I sensed where it was going early but kept gasping as it happened. Listened to the whole thing in two sittings—cleaned the house top to bottom bewitched and miserable.
A grotesque villain at its centre. Occasionally lapses into bathetic cliche ('I should know not to play with fire') and too-easy pop culture references so a ding on the rating.
Otherwise rollicking if not particularly psychologically coherent or accurate. It's a story and does it well. The audiobook, too, is perhaps the best narrared I've ever listened to.
