I read this book about 2 years ago, after the major blow up of popularity to see what it was about. Boy was that a mistake. The way abuse is glamorized and people romanticize this book is absolutely disgusting to me and the amount of glowing 5 stars I see this book get make me fee physically sick to my stomach. It's even worse to me that this book now has a movie adaptation!
There are some more specific reasons why i hate this book
�� I hate Ryle. Like "oh you're supposed to love him until you find out he's ABUSIVE!" NO, he's genuinely an awful character from the start, you cannot change my mind on this. Who tf smokes weed at the top of a balcony and admits to a random person, they don't know, that they wanna have sex with them. THEN when she sprains her ankle he goes "i still teally wanna have sex wjth you" like how bout check out her leg and not her 🐱 RED FLAG! Also his name, really riles me up (hehehe).

�� Cute homeless boy is not homeless anymore and is now rich and does the bare minimum for a girl he still kind of likes, in front of her boyfriend

�� SHE WRITES IN HER JOURNAL TO ELLEN DEGENERES?!?! WTF??

I understand wanting to write a book about breaking the cycle of abuse the mom and daughter have been through, I just think that it could've been done better, and the amount of romanticization the book receives is insane considering the main plot is about escaping domestic abuse.

Edit: I also wanted to add a little thing on the whole "yeah atlas is a legal adult but its only a 2 year difference between the two, it's fine later in life, so what's the big deal??" That doesn't make it okay for a legal adult to have sex with a minor. Minors can't legally consent to sex and that's the part people are more focused on.
