Wow!! I suddenly feel very privileged to have had semi normal parents and a decent childhood. My daughter aged 15 read this for school and I found it to be eye opening. Interesting that Jeanette seemed to almost say for her parents it was their choice to live homeless. Clearly there was mental illness and alcohol addiction as well. Her paternal grandparents were deplorable. Highly recommend. I also found Angela's ashes a good memoir with parental issues.
