This was fun, but had some typical middle-book-in-a-series problems. I didn't really feel like we went anywhere in this in terms of either plot or character development. My vote is that Yarros makes Riorson go completely dark-side in the next book. I'm getting a bit bored with the will-he or won't-he. If he could turn from antihero love-interest to proper villain, I think we'd actually get some where in terms of Violet having to decide what she's about.

agreed, Briynne! the stakes feel bizarrely low for Violet, considering her super-powerful lover is turning into a demon and he's desperately needed to can save the world, etc etc. she's very sure of their relationship (and she's been right every time so far), it really deadens the tension for me.

I have a feeling Xaden will be completely dark side in Book 4 as well, especially if there's going to be 5 books in the series. He's gotta hit the ultimate low still. But let's talk about Ridoc--was he not amazing in this one?! He had me laughing out loud so many times!
