An interesting premise creates this post apocalyptic world. New Orleans is hit by a multitude of hurricanes and after a particularly severe one a fever develops. In the end, all the United States can do is build a wall. Fen is a teenage girl who is protected by the chieftain of the Os. Certain blood types are more resilient to the virus. Obeying one of the best is preyed upon by other blood type tribes who harvest blood to prolong their lives. Fen’s chieftain dies in childbirth and Fen promises to take care of her. She seeks to save the child by finding a way to get her to the other side of the wall. Good action, good characters and while it was good, I can’t say much more. The author has written several other teen books gaining critical acclaim.
