This book is so incredibly bad, that’s it’s nearly offensive. I’m not even sure exactly where to start.
Complaint number one: The dialogue. It is so incredibly terrible. It’s eye roll endurcing at best. I dislike the word cringe. But the dialogue in this book, is cringe worthy.
Complaint number two: this book is painfully all over the place. There are SO many characters that add nearly nothing to the story. At times, you get backstory/tangents from a random character that has exactly zero to do with anything. It adds nothing but confusion.
Complaint three: Elizabeth. She is so incredibly unlikable. Nothing remotely redeeming about her.
Complaint four: fat shaming? Really? REALLY?
Complaint five: this book, is utterly unbelievable. I get that suspension of belief is an important part of some books. Science fiction. Sure. Fantasy? Of course. This book? It’s not the type you should need to set aside belief to be able to read. But we are supposed to believe that a group of 80 something retirees make better murder detectives than actual police officers? Sure. At one point Elizabeth is explaining a clue to one of the detectives. The detective says something along the lines of “oh this is just getting a to complicated for me to understand. What? PAINFUL.
This is probably the book that push me into the “did not finish club. I have finished just about every single book I’ve ever started. There were so many times I almost quit this one. But I always convince myself that it’s gotta get better. Sometimes it does. This was NOT one of those times. I also figure that once I’m half way through, I need to finish because I’ve already invested time. No more of that after reading this book.
I can find something positive to say about 99 out of 100 books that I read. This is the 1 out of 100. Just, absolutely terrible. Take my word for it. Save yourself.
